Fawnskin is an immensely historic neighborhood in Big Bear Lake. This quaint little town offers some of the best lake and ski slope views in all of the Big Bear Valley.
The Serrano Native American tribe legend about how the town got its name has led to the urban legend. Hunters discovered deer (fawn) skins stretched out to dry in the sun. Therefore, the area became known as Fawn Skin and changed later to Fawnskin.
Mountain travelers in the 19th century came to Big Bear Valley through Fawnskin on the roughunpaved road by stagecoach.
Fawnskin is an artist’s colony, which attracts artisans, musicians, composers and actors from all over the country.
